Refurbished Structural Mezzanines
Warehouse Mezzanines
Warehouse mezzanines are the perfect way to increase your space without adding square footage.
When your business is outstripping your warehouse space, the first thing many distributors, commercial realtors, business and building owners do is look outward. They look nearby for more warehouses they buy or lease to meet their expanding needs.
But the smartest ones look UP!
Because they realize that adding a warehouse mezzanine floor is the most cost effective way to increase your warehouse capacity and avoid all the negatives that come with buying new space.
Adding a Mezzanine Floor vs. New Warehouse Space
When you choose a buying a new warehouse vs. installing a structural mezzanine you’re choosing to spend more and deal with more headaches, like:
- Finding the right storage property
- Getting inspections done
- Ensuring climate control is in place and working
- Sourcing property insurance
- Integrating a new address into your fulfillment processes (intake and delivery)
- Coordinating between multiple warehouses
- Upgrading your eCommerce or inventory control systems for multiple locations for shipping estimates
You’re also choosing to add more initial and overhead expenses:
- More staff
- 2X the electric bills
- More warehouse equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, etc
- Initial build out of common areas and offices
- Property insurance
- Liability insurance
- Flood coverage if required.
- Security
- Internet and phone services
Adding a Warehouse Mezzanines and Racking Systems instead
The alternative to a new warehouse is adding a mezzanine floor for your current warehouse. And there are so many advantages!
The first and most obvious should be the cost difference between the two. The cost of a custom mezzanine system pales compared to having to move your entire business elsewhere or building on to your existing facility.
Consider 2 different approaches to planning for adding a mezzanine floor to your building:
Mezzanine Design – First Approach:
The first approach is the way most storage warehouse owners think about adding space.
Simply get the most added floor-space possible and load it up with pallet racks or push back racks – whatever the requirements are.
If you were looking into adding on to an existing warehouse or leasing additional space that just makes sense. You need more rack space so you get a pallet rack mezzanine put in place.
Mezzanine Design – Second Approach(es):
Got-Rack’s design experience allows us to help you think a little bit more outside the storage container! Because we’ve had such a variety of clients, and built so many custom designed mezzanines over the years, we know what might work even better.
Elevate factory, shipping and supervisory offices
Did you know that you can put a modular office on a mezzanine floor?

The big advantage to elevating offices instead of storage is that your current pick and pull systems can remain unchanged. Packing, pick and pull are going to be much faster on the main floor anyway, and you can free up THAT space by moving offices up top.
Another plus is the bird’s eye view that management and supervisory staff can get of the factory or warehouse floor. Being able to watch the workflow and keep an eye on processes and procedures can be a real bonus for many companies.
Support warehouse equipment
Also with an eye towards freeing up floor space we’ve had customers populate their mezzanines with:
- AC Units
- Commercial Ventilation Systems
- Conveyors
- Dust Collectors for Commercial Fabricators
- And more…
And of course – just adding place for pallet racking!
Types of Mezzanines for Warehouse, Retail and Factory Use
There are several options for the mezzanine design itself to consider:
Pallet Rack Supported Mezzanine – These create a level of usable space between existing storage racks. Often these are used to install catwalks or conveyors around a factory or distribution warehouse. Pallet-rack supported mezzanines can be used to free up space for safe foot traffic OR be engineered for a full-sized mezzanine for storage.
Free-Standing Mezzanine Floor – Commonly known as structural, steel, or wide span. They are generally used in a wide variety of warehouse applications. Got-Rack.com can provide these custom applications for any warehouse configuration. They offer great flexibility and are considered capital equipment.
Building Supported Mezzanine – Based upon a building’s design to support additional weight, the building or warehouse can also be used as a support. Got-Rack.com can also combine a system in which a mezzanine is supported partly by the building structure and partly by columns.
You often find these kinds of mezzanines in retail spaces and fitness centers.
Shelving Supported Mezzanine – This option is generally used for storage of smaller items along with existing shelving. This is a more efficient use of existing space.
Different types of these warehouse loft support systems can be used in the same environment – and you don’t have to decide what’s best for your particular project.
The expert designers are got-rack.com can work with your specifications or design one from scratch.
